YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974)
Directed by Mel Brooks
Written by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder
Starring Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Peter Boyle
KATY SAYS: I first saw this movie in junior high school. We were doing a unit on Frankenstein and had to watch multiple different versions of the story put to screen. I didn’t appreciate it then, but I was young and had no taste. It’s an, endlessly quotable classic comedy with masterful performances from Gene Wilder and Teri Garr. One of Mel Brooks best.
ERIC SAYS:
My favorite Mel Brooks film. Nobody does sheer panic like Gene Wilder. It’s a beautiful and hilarious love letter to the Universal monster movies of old. What I didn’t know until much later, is that a great deal of the movie is a remake of 1939’s “Son of Frankenstein,” with whole scenes being lifted and rewritten by Brooks and Wilder.
Bonus: Madeline Kahn!
